Now Forming the Rock-n-Roll Church in Hartford
Jesus is the Rock and We're on Heaven's Roll Call
The only church I’d go to right now is in Florida. It’s called the rock-n-roll church. 45 minutes of music and 15 minutes of preaching. All the best bar musicians from Destin, FL get together every Sunday morning and play around 11 am. Sometimes the congregation sings with. A guy who used to play with Elvis is in the band.
Hartford needs this. Every church I’ve been to either has a beat-them-over-the-head-with-a-baseball-bat message, or their music is not contemporary, or it's authority-based and legalistic with people who think they should run you life, or it's money-driven, or the guy talks too long and all the teenagers suffer through it, or they split up the families during the services or it's not Christian. The pastor in Destin is Toy, and the only thing he ever preaches on is grace and love. That's what I want.
All we need is a nice old man who just wants to preach about love for a short bit every Sunday and some musicians who want to be in a rock-and-roll church playing music. That’s a vision that can be attained. The largest church in the DC area started out in a guy’s basement, but he’s being busted again for seducing young boys like he was before he started that church. If people want more than this from a church, there are plenty of other churches out there they can choose from, but I don’t know any around here that come close to Faith Assembly in Destin.
There's a hunger out there ... a Sunday morning sanctuary of brothers and sisters filled with nothing but great music for worship, love and inspirational Bible scripture.
As a church, we will not put money into pews and parking lots but rather widows and orphans, for this is the will of God:
Outreach Ministry for Orphans and Widows
27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
And there will be no law but love, for with Jesus came the end of the law.
