The Grinch didn't steal Christmas, Santa did.
jesus wasn't really born on this day
although he probably was born on some hay
see the shepherd's were watching their flocks remember
and that wouldn't have happened in cold december
so why was december 25th picked
cuz church leaders were challening another God myth
but what happened to christmas is really quite sad
cuz what much is done now is marketplace fad
that for which Christ himself really got mad
turning all the tables over saying this is so bad
why all the gifts
why all the presents
for though that which you do for the least of your brothers
is done unto me jesus said to all others
but who goes around giving tom, dick and harry
nice big surprises when the birthday is larry's?
oh, yes, it's a sinch
just call me a grinch
but did you really go thinking
all the presents you gave
you gave to jesus
that's why all the rave?
no i bet not many had Jesus in mind
when they bought all their lovers those beautiful finds
givin' them so they're thought of as Chips Ahoy
n couldn't wait to get back their irresistable toy
oh sure you bake cakes and sing happy birthday to Him
but all of those things that filled you to brim
the great money exchange that emptied your pockets
giving away all that good stuff and shiny gold lockets
are you more happy now cuz you're more into debt
cuz now all those big purchases you may regret
oh the great day that we give to our Christ
has grossly become Wall Street's marketplace heist
so what to do now with all these young kids
who go to sleep anxious with droopy eyelids
just waiting for santa to bring all the toys
yes all the world's little girls and boys
well when my kids were young
i told them there's no santa
but they just didn't believe me
they thought it was pure banter
and oh the good neighbors
just couldn't believe
that of santa i spoke such atrocity
this the deep root of dear old saint nick
the wondrous rival of Christ's relic
who empties the pockets of all who believe
into Wal-Mart and Tiffany and Monopoly
the greatest indulgence of gluttony
but let's not forget the higher crime
church leaders taking your money for shrines
and with all that gold from days of old
they hoard in the temples there's no denying
oh wouldn't God rather have had
all that for orphans and widows so sad
our king born to poor
and who lived in the clay
looking at what has become of this day
the greatest of all
money exchange
leaving you now quite a bit short of change
the lame name of that game
for those who don't play
shame, blame major dismay
for to Christ I reclaim
this Christmas way
no more Santa Claus stealin' Jesus' birthday
no our Savior's great gift was not made of gold
the one thing He gave that saved your soul
His life as a ransom
saying He had to leave
to go build you a mansion
and to this we ought cleave
so i say give all the presents you wish
just on the right birthday of those you cherish
